RAF Wittering was formed in 1924 after the amalgamation of the two airfields of Stamford and Collyweston. Originally home to the Central Flying School, Wittering has operated most aircraft types during its history, from Hurricanes and Spitfires, Canberra's, Valiants and Victors, to to-days Harriers. |
Currently, the base is home to 20(R) Squadron, this being the Harrier operational conversion unit. All other harrier units were moved to nearby Cottesmore. |
The scenery features the C type and Gaydon hangers which are found at Wittering. Weapons storage area(Bomb Dump) Technical and domestic buildings. Static Harriers, support vehicles, and dynamic aircraft flying the circuit. |
The buildings and layout of the technical, and domestic sites are intended to recognise the fact that this type of station could not function without the support of the many trades and functions such as catering, stores, and administration etc. These buildings and layout are not intended to be an accurate representation of this particular station. |
